Give Obesity the Boot, Inc.
is a and non-profit and holds a 501c3, founded by Angie Flores.  Give Obesity the Boot is a member-to-member support system designed to raise money for obesity awareness, leadership, research and education.

The education component will be in the form of after-school programs, as well as an obesity camp for children. I’ve taken it a step further, however. Parents must be involved in these endeavors. If we’re to keep our children off the operating tables as obese adults, we parents must learn to offer our children healthier alternatives.  To that end, the after school programs and camp offering cooking classes for out members.

In addition to this, we intend to show parents what a nutritiously stocked refrigerator and pantry look like. No longer can we allow our children to mindlessly eat junk food on the sofa while watching television or playing video games. Part of this educational process will be teaching our children to make healthy choices. This will also include involving children in healthy meal preparation. I truly believe that if children are part of the preparation of healthy meals, they will be more likely to eat them. Families and individuals will be taught lifestyle changes that will include proper activity levels for each age group, as well as team activities for families. These can include softball, volleyball, hiking and biking.

The second component will be leadership. I believe that teaching parents to lead by example is the best way to accomplish our goals of eliminating obesity and its related diseases.  As a bariatric patient myself, a mother and daughter of bariatric patients, and supporting thousands of post op bariatric patients for the last 6 years, I know all too well the challenges faced everyday by the obese.  It’s this passion that will make Give Obesity the Boot, Inc. successful in leadership training

The third component is research.
We intend to survey the general population, as well as the patients with whom I’ve had contact to search out obesity trends, and uncommon ccomorbidities

The final component is awareness. The average person might not see the 600, 700, 800 or 900 pound person, but they’re there; they may be lying on a bare mattress on the floor in a back bedroom. Most of us never even know they live among us until they are cut out of their houses, mechanically lifted onto a stretcher, and put into the back of an ambulance to be transported to the hospital – or to the morgue.  It is my intention through Give Obesity the Boot, Inc., to shine a spotlight on this problem. The super-morbidly obese do not get to be super-morbidly obese by accident. They get that way because they are constantly turned away when they reach out for help. They are considered high-risk individuals, and are told by the medical community to “go on a diet”. If diets alone truly worked, we would have no obese people in the world.

These four elements, when combined, are our best chance to create a healthier population. Each element is as important as the next. Without education, there could be no awareness. Without leadership, there could be no research.
